In 1974, two families, the Phil Smith family of Union and the Lou Gettings family of Robertsville, began a home Bible Study.  Later these families and others began meeting as a local church for worship and remembrance of the Lord Jesus Christ using the New Testament church as their example.

The group began meeting as a church in the home of Phil Smith on July 16, 1975.  On March 6, 1977, the land was purchased on which the present chapel would be built.  In April of 1978 the grading and roadwork began.  It was not until June 1978 that the construction of the lower auditorium commenced and by April 1979 it was completed and the believers met for the first time in the lower auditorium.  As families were added, it became necessary to complete the upper structure.  This began in July 1983 and was completed in December 1983 when it was dedicated.

In 1983 the Jack Darnton and Charles Brennecke families from Believers Chapel planted Augusta Bible Fellowship, later to become Community Bible Church.
